Our Mission
The goal of the Scripps Charter Society is to expose
promising high school science students to the challenges
of medicine and scientific thinking, and inspire them
to pursue higher education in the sciences.
Young Scientist
Lecture Day
Each winter we sponsor a Young Scientist Lecture Day
for San Diego County students and their science teachers.
Lecture Day includes presentations by leading medical
researchers and guided tours of Scripps Clinic facilities
and The Scripps Research Institute labs. In past years,
students have heard from a wide range of speakers on
diverse subjects such as "The Dynamics of Discovery
and Ethics in Clinical Medicine" and "Xenotransplantation:
Getting in Touch With an Animal Inside of You". Young
Scientist Lecture Days have introduced thousands of
San Diego high school students to the excitement of
groundbreaking scientific discoveries.
Summer
Internships
Each summer the Charter Society offers paid internships
to 12 - 15 high school students. Charter Society Summer
Internships provide a unique opportunity to work side-by-side
with San Diego's foremost researchers, and learn what
a career in biomedical research or clinical medicine
involves. Interns spend eight weeks in Scripps
labs and clinics, developing their research skills and
observing the clinical application of cutting edge medical
innovations.
Teachers and students interested in
either of these programs can find more information and
application materials to be posted soon. Or contact
us at info@scrippscharter.org.
